Web-Don, Inc. Celebrates Its 50th Anniversary

The wholesale distributor of surfacing products is a family-owned and operated company, now into its third generation.

Web-Don, Inc. celebrates 50 years as a wholesale distributor of surfacing products throughout the southeastern United States. It is a family-owned and operated company, now into its third generation.

“We want to celebrate our first 50 years and look forward to where we want to go in the next 50 years,” said Missy O’Daniel, CEO of Web-Don. “Our products are vital to the operations of hospitals, schools and the building industry, and although people may not know our name since we don’t sell directly to the public, they certainly know our products.”

Giving back to the local community is also an important initiative. “Going forward, we’re putting in place our ‘Web-Donate’ program in which we, as a company, and our employees will give back in various ways to the communities that support us.”

“It is rare for a company in this industry to make it to their 50th anniversary, which is another big reason for celebration,” O’Daniel continued. It is rarer still that a company in this industry is led by a woman. Missy O’Daniel joined Web-Don after college and rose up through the ranks to lead the organization in June 2018. She is the company’s first female president and CEO and served as the first female president of the North American Building Material Distribution Association (NBMDA) in 2018-2019.

Web-Don is celebrating its golden anniversary with private events at each of its distribution locations where O’Daniel will introduce its new website and anniversary logo. The first event will be held near their Charlotte, North Carolina headquarters location on Thursday, April 28.


The idea for Web-Don came about when Don Smith and Webster Collett, who owned and operated a Florida Tile distributorship in Charlotte, North Carolina came to Charlotte native and entrepreneur (and Smith’s neighbor) Jesse “Buck” McQuay to ask if he wanted to join them in creating a local distributorship offering surfacing products for area contractors. McQuay agreed and bought into the company.

As a result, Web-Don, Inc. was incorporated on April 28, 1972. It became a leading Charlotte-based distributor for Wilsonart, a manufacturer and distributor of surfacing materials used on furniture, countertops, worktops and walls in homes, offices, and business and commercial spaces.

By 1973, Web-Don was established as one of the foremost Wilsonart distributors in the U.S., and was named “Distributor of the Year.”

In 1984, McQuay and Smith purchased Collett’s interests, and then in 2005, McQuay became the sole owner of Web-Don. Many people in the Charlotte region know Buck McQuay as a respected New York Life insurance agent and a member of its Million Dollar Round Table. He continued to run his insurance business while simultaneously serving as President and CEO of Web-Don for more than 45 years.

In 2017, McQuay stepped back and his daughter Missy O’Daniel became President and CEO in 2018. Majority interests were transferred to McQuay’s wife, Gail McQuay, to form a woman-owned and family-run business.

Web-Don now occupies five buildings on one street in Charlotte. Branches were added throughout the southeastern U.S. in Wilmington, North Carolina; Raleigh, North Carolina; Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Piney Flats, Tennessee; and Columbia, South Carolina.
